Chapter 4: The first cohort of pupils at the school

001 005 002

Two of the pupils that were there in September 1961 visited Omagh High School on Friday 25th June 2021 to discuss the events planned for the 60th anniversary of the school with Mr Gaitatzis. The past pupils had a lot of interesting stories to share with the current Principal.

The first cohort of pupils came through the doors of Omagh High School on the 4th September 1961. However, the school was not ready on time and although all pupils were eager to start they had to be sent home until the 18th of September 1961.

In the meantime, 16th September 1961 storm Debbie made the situation more difficult as its power create various problems to the unfinished school building. On the Monday 18th 1961 the pupils started their lessons wearing the Maroon and grey/yellow uniforms.

Both Evelyn and Raymond had many stories to share and they are excited coming back to school on the 6th September for a few lessons at Omagh High once again!

They are looking forward to meet old friends and also younger generations of High School pupils that will be joining us on 6th September for the “Return to School event”.

Please complete and send the reply slip to participate.
