OHS U-14 football season gets underway

Omagh High School’s under-14 football season commenced on 16th January 2024 with a very tricky home tie against pre-tournament favourites Devenish College. Omagh High School’s side comprised of a selection of Year 9 and Year 10 pupils, marshalled by captain Jake W and vice-captain Jayden F. Jake and Jayden, as well as Alfie C, Antoni Z and Jacob H had represented the school magnificently well in the McMullan Shield last season and continued to impress in the opening match of this season’s hotly contested league and cup format. The remaining members of the team were making their debuts and wore the school colours with immense pride and passion. Devenish would eventually come out on top in this one, clinical as they were in front of goal but that is not to say the Omagh High defence didn’t work tirelessly at the back to keep the game in the balance right up to the final 10 minutes when Devenish extended their lead to claim all three points.

Notable performances on the day from captain Jake W, defensive midfielder Bobby I, goalkeeper Jake D, full back Alfie C and man of the match Antoni Z who was a colossus at the back not only effectively intercepting Devenish through balls at the back but also picking a pass going forward. A very promising start for the team.

Our next match is a home fixture against Fivemiletown College on 24th January 2024. Kick off 10.30am.
