Omagh High School's annual Prizegiving ceremony took place on 22/01/25, with current students and recent leavers awarded prizes to celebrate success in a wide range of fields during the last academic year.
The afternoon began with Mrs I Clarke, Chairperson of our Board of Governors, who welcomed governors, teachers, support staff, ancillary staff, parents, and pupils to the occasion. This was followed by our Principal’s address from Mr C Gaitatzis and speeches from our Head Girl, Poppy P, and Head Boy, Ben D, about their experiences at Omagh High School from Year 8 to now, both in and out of the classroom.
Prizes were distributed to pupils for a range of exceptional reasons: academic merit, general proficiency, house achievement awards, attendance, and a variety of GCSE and A-Level subject awards.
Our guest speaker for the ceremony was Mr J Fowler, reporter for BBC NI South West, who has worked with the BBC for an impressive 29 years. He spoke honestly about how the world of journalism has changed through technology, the value of hard work, and commended our pupils for their successes.
An expression of thanks and dedication was made to Mr Fowler by Deputy Head Girl, Andrea McF, and Deputy Head Boy, Adam J, for being Omagh High School’s guest speaker.
The afternoon concluded with a musical interlude from the cast of Annie Jr., who gave us a wonderful insight into the musical talents that can be experienced from the cast in March at the Strule Arts Centre.
All school staff, parents and pupils ended the afternoon with light refreshments in the dining hall.
Thank you to everyone for their help and support at Omagh High School’s annual Prizegiving.
